2027: Edo South PDP Candidate Osifo Dismisses Party Crisis, Predicts Election Victory

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Edo South Senatorial District in the 2027 election, Hon. Don-Pax Osifo, has downplayed the party’s internal crisis, expressing confidence that the PDP will overcome its challenges and secure victory in the senatorial election.

Speaking with journalists on Tuesday shortly after arriving at the Benin Airport, Osifo said the PDP remained a formidable political force capable of winning not only the Edo South senatorial seat but other elective positions in Edo State.

The PDP candidate, who was received by a large crowd of party supporters before embarking on a roadshow through major parts of Benin City, said the party had moved beyond its primary election and must now unite behind a common objective of reclaiming electoral victories in 2027.

According to him, the conclusion of the party’s primary process makes it imperative for all members to close ranks and work together for electoral success.

“I am a bridge builder. We are not at war. The primaries are over, and we all have to come together as one united family. I believe we will perform well in the forthcoming election, and Nigerians, especially the people of Edo South, will see what the PDP has to offer,” Osifo said.

He said his aspiration to represent Edo South in the Senate was driven by a desire to improve the welfare of the people rather than personal ambition.

Osifo identified insecurity and the region’s infrastructure deficit as key issues that would shape his legislative agenda if elected.

He lamented that persistent insecurity had prevented many farmers from accessing their farmlands, threatening food production and the livelihoods of rural communities.

While acknowledging that the National Assembly’s primary responsibility is lawmaking, Osifo said legislators could also champion laws and interventions that strengthen the country’s security architecture and promote economic development.

“This election is about the people — the unemployed graduate seeking opportunities, the trader struggling daily to provide for the family, and the farmer who deserves to cultivate the land without fear. We must enact laws and support policies that guarantee the safety of our people and accelerate development,” he added.

Also speaking, the PDP Edo South Senatorial Chairman, Hon. Osaro Iselemon, described the turnout of supporters at the airport as evidence of the party’s enduring popularity and grassroots support in Edo State.

According to Iselemon, the mobilisation was achieved within less than 24 hours after party faithful were informed of Osifo’s arrival, underscoring what he described as the PDP’s organisational strength ahead of the 2027 elections.

“The notice was given in less than 24 hours, yet you can see the massive crowd here. That tells you the PDP remains the party to beat in Edo State. We are confident that with effective mobilisation, we will win the election,” Iselemon said.
