2027: Tinubu Faces No Opposition In Rivers, Says ALGON Chairman As Wike’s Projects Earn Praise

The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Rivers State and Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government, Hon. Allwell Ihunda, has declared that President Bola Tinubu faces no opposition in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general election, citing what he described as a broad-based political coalition supporting the President.

Speaking in Abuja on Monday during a solidarity visit by Rivers State local government chairmen to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr Nyesom Wike, at the official flag-off of the Tungan Madaki-Zuba road project, Ihunda said the political landscape in the state had shifted in Tinubu’s favour.

According to him, the “Rainbow Coalition” championed by Wike has united political actors across party lines in support of the Federal Government and the President.

“In Rivers State, the forthcoming election in 2027 is going to be a walkover. For the first time in the history of Nigeria, we have the Rainbow Coalition where virtually all the political parties are working together in the interest of the Federal Government and the President,” he said.

Ihunda said the delegation visited Abuja to express support for Wike, whom he described as a worthy ambassador of Rivers State, praising the FCT Minister for what he called transformative infrastructure development in the nation’s capital.

He also commended President Tinubu for appointing Wike, saying the Minister’s performance had justified the confidence reposed in him.

“We are indeed very happy and proud that a son of Rivers State has decided to change the landscape of the Federal Capital Territory. If we tell ourselves the truth, this is the first time a Minister of the Federal Capital Territory is turning around the entire city,” he said.

He noted that the ongoing commissioning and inauguration of projects across the FCT demonstrated both Wike’s leadership capacity and the Tinubu administration’s commitment to infrastructure development.

According to Ihunda, the 31-day programme of project commissioning organised to mark Tinubu’s third anniversary in office reflects the administration’s delivery of tangible development.

“We are indeed very proud that the son of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, is the one handling all these projects. It shows his capacity, visionary leadership and commitment to service,” he said.

The ALGON chairman maintained that the administration’s performance had strengthened public confidence in the President, expressing optimism that Tinubu would secure another term in office in 2027.

He added: “With what we are seeing and what has been done, it is obvious that come 2027, Rivers State, and indeed Nigeria, would want the President to return and continue his good works for another four years.”
