The candidates comprise 41 male and 11 female inmates drawn from various custodial facilities in the state.
Speaking during a monitoring visit to the examination centres, the Controller of Corrections for Kano State Command, Yusuf Ahmad Lakpene, said the initiative reflects the Service’s commitment to rehabilitating inmates through education and equipping them with skills for successful reintegration into society after serving their sentences.
He urged the candidates to conduct themselves with discipline and integrity throughout the examinations, describing education as a vital tool for personal transformation, behavioural change and reducing the likelihood of reoffending.
Lakpene also commended Abba Kabir Yusuf for sponsoring the registration fees of the inmate candidates, saying the gesture demonstrates the state government’s commitment to expanding access to education, including for people in custodial centres.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Correctional Service’s resolve to broaden educational opportunities for inmates as part of its rehabilitation and reintegration strategy.
The Controller was accompanied during the inspection by the Officer-in-Charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kurmawa, DCC Ibrahim Isa Rambo, the Head of the Non-Custodial Unit, ACC Musa Muhammad Kibiya, and the Principal of the Custodial School, DSC Ahmad Muhammad Alkanawi.
