AAAN Kicks Off 53rd AGM in Lagos with Focus on Industry Transformation

The Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN) today begins its 53rd Annual General Meeting and Congress in Lagos, convening top players across advertising, marketing, media, government, and the broader creative economy to interrogate the forces redefining the industry.

The two-day gathering, holding at Providence Hotel, is themed “AdVolution: The End of Advertising as We Know It and How to Win What Comes Next.” It spotlights the sweeping transformation of advertising driven by artificial intelligence, shifting consumer behavior, and emerging creative ecosystems.

Proceedings open with AAAN’s business session, where members will review the Association’s activities, examine committee reports, and align on strategic priorities. The session is expected to provide a critical reflection point on industry progress and emerging challenges.

The main conference, scheduled for Friday, will be officially declared open by Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, with participation from key government and regulatory figures, including Mohammed Idris Malagi and Lekan Fadolapo of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria.

A major highlight of the congress will be keynote presentations from Tomiwa Aladekomo and Meksley Nwagboh, who will offer insights into the evolving advertising landscape, brand storytelling, and the strategic role of communications in a rapidly changing marketplace.

Speaking ahead of the event, AAAN President Lanre Adisa described the theme as a necessary wake-up call for the industry.

> “Traditional advertising is not dead; it has evolved. The need to communicate will never change—it is only evolving faster. The question is how well we are embracing this challenge.”

He emphasized that while technologies such as artificial intelligence are reshaping the sector, agencies remain central to crafting ideas that resonate with audiences, with technology serving as an enabler rather than a replacement for human creativity.

The congress will feature high-level discussions on the future role of agencies, the rise of the creator economy, innovation powered by technology, and the growing demand for measurable value in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

Activities will wrap up with a Gala and Awards Night celebrating excellence and honoring standout contributions within Nigeria’s advertising industry.
