MAKURDI – About 300 students of the Federal University of Technology, Babura (FUTB), Jigawa State, have received N45 million, scholarship to go ahead with their academic pursuits.
The scholarship was awarded to the students by a Philanthropist, David Ukechir, who is the Convener of the Back to School Project under the Grassroot Support for Tinubu 2027 – The 1019 Initiative.
Dr Ephraim Tyo, Coordinator of the Back to School Project, who disclosed this during the presentation ceremony, explained that each of the beneficiaries received N150,000, each as support for their tuition and other academic expenses.
Speaking on behalf of the Convener, Tyo, observed that the initiative was aimed at reducing the financial burden on students and enabling them to pursue their education without hardship.
While Tyo, advised the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds; to remain committed to their studies and strive for academic excellence, he said the scholarship reflected Ukechir’s commitment to investing in the future of Nigerian youths through education.
According to him, the initiative has also implemented several humanitarian interventions across the country, including free medical outreaches, borehole projects to improve access to clean water, free transportation services and scholarships for pupils in nursery, primary and secondary schools.
According to him, the interventions were designed to improve the welfare and living conditions of vulnerable Nigerians through sustainable social programmes.
Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Sabo Ibrahim Birnin Kudu, commended the Convener of the project, Ukechir, for what he described as one of the institution’s most significant philanthropic interventions.
While he encouraged Ukechir, to sustain his support for education and continue assisting less-privileged students, Kudu, observed that such acts of generosity would contribute meaningfully to national development by expanding access to higher education.
He assured that the beneficiaries would remain committed to their academic pursuits and justify the confidence reposed in them through diligence and outstanding performance.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Miss Hauwau Muhammad, described the scholarship as timely and impactful.
She said the intervention would significantly ease the financial burden confronting many of the students and expressed appreciation to Ukechir and the organisers for the gesture.
Muhammad prayed for God’s continued protection, wisdom and strength for the benefactor to sustain his humanitarian interventions.
