The Benue State governorship candidate of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Hon. Mathew Ochigbo, has condemned the recent killings in Otukpo Local Government Area, describing the attacks as heartbreaking and unacceptable.
In a statement, Ochigbo expressed sympathy with the victims and their families, saying the continued loss of innocent lives was unacceptable and contrary to the peaceful Benue people desire.
He urged the perpetrators to desist from the violence, insisting that the attacks would not break the resolve of the people.
The governorship candidate also called on the government to take immediate and decisive action by securing affected communities, arresting those responsible for the killings, and providing support to bereaved families.
“As your son and as someone seeking to serve you as governor, I promise you this: Security will be my number one priority. Every village, every market, and every home in Otukpo and across Benue must be safe,” he said.
Ochigbo pledged that, if elected, his administration would prioritise security while investing in youth employment, supporting farmers, and promoting development to address the root causes of violence.
He also appealed to residents of Otukpo not to lose hope, assuring them of his solidarity during the difficult period.
“We mourn with you. We stand with you. Together, we will build a Benue where no child is buried before their time,” he said.
He prayed for the repose of the souls of those killed and called for lasting peace across Otukpo and Benue State.
