“Burna Boy, Asake, Davido – Please Come Together and Help the Poor!” Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu Makes Emotional Appeal to Young Superstars: “Maybachs and Rolls-Royces Are Fine, But Your Money Can Still Save Lives”

On Saturday, July 11, 2026, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, called on popular musicians Burna Boy, Davido, Asake and other young rich Nigerians to come together and use part of their money to help poor people in the country.

Mrs Tinubu made the appeal in Lokoja, Kogi State, while launching the National Community Food Bank. She said the government alone cannot carry the heavy burden of helping many poor Nigerians, so wealthy entertainers should also support through foundations. Watch video here

“I want to appeal to our young people in this country. Burna Boy, Asake and Davido, we want to see you come together under one foundation to help the poor with your money. The Maybachs and Rolls-Royces are good, but you can still help. The burden on the government is huge,” she said.

She added that there are many small traders like pepper sellers, vegetable sellers, okra sellers, melon sellers, akara and kuli-kuli sellers who need help. She defended her earlier comments about supporting such businesses and shared a story of a graduate in Abuja who now sells akara successfully and even employs 12 people after receiving support.

The First Lady said these small businesses are important and should not be looked down on. She encouraged rich Nigerians, including music stars, to copy what others like Akon have done by setting up charity foundations.
