CEDYK Advocates Tree Planting In Anambra To Sustain The Environment And Boost Family Economy

An Anambra based Non Governmental Organization (NGO), Community Empowerment Development Youth and Knowledge (CEDYK), has advocated regular planting of economic and other trees by the state’s residents to check mate the effects climate change ,sustain the environment and boost the economy of their families.
Duke of CEDYK in Nnewi South council area of the state, Brother Ikechukwu Uzoukwu made the advocacy in Ukpo, the headquarters of the council area on Saturday when the organization embarked on a tree planting campaign using the community as a pilot scheme.
Uzoukwu said during the exercise which drew members of the CEDYK from other council areas of the state that they were encouraging people to embark on massive tree planting in their areas to mitigate the effects of global warming which has adversely affected our environments including crops in the farm lands and human existence.
The effects of this climate change he said manifest in heat occasioned dehydration, poor crop yields and even gully erosions all over the place,thus defacing the entire Anambra environment.
“We felt we should educate our people to plant trees and mitigate the situation and preserve our environment.

” We believe tree planting is one of the things that should be done in communities to assist our people mitigate global warming and checkmate gully erosion and boost the economy of our families.
“That’s why we are encouraging the planting of economic trees like palm trees, Bitter Kola, Bread fruits,Soar sops, Cashew trees, Ogbono trees, and some others like Bananas, Plantains, Bamboo sticks and some fruit trees with big shades.
” If you observed closely, you would notice that some fruit trees like mango. Pears,name them, even corns didn’t do well this year.

” This is July when the rain is supposed to be at its peak , but it’s hot. So we believe that taking the campaign to the 21 local government areas of the state and the 177 communities will help preserve the environment and boost the economy of many families.
” The species of trees we have selected to plant start bearing fruits in three years”, he said, adding that the trees will also check deforestation.
Nnewi South alone he said has over 1,000 registered members of the organization which he noted is also growing rapidly in the other council areas of the state.
CEDYK, Uzoukwu said has vocational training programmes for the youths in areas of fashion designing, plumbing, palm oil extraction in oil mills , POP, masonry , carpentry, cabinet making and so forth, while promoting health awareness and environmental cleanliness within the communities.
He also said the CEDYK has a scholarship scheme for the indigent, provide educational and leadership support to the youths and ensure that out of school children during this period of free education by the Soludo administration of the state are taken back to school, foster economic self reliance and sustainable economic development .

Dan Chima Eberechukwu, Duke of CEDYK in Nnewi North council area of the state said the launch of the organization’s tree planting campaign was for the good and progress of Anambra state and it’s people.
CEDYK he said is an organization that cares and urged Anambra people to unite behind iiin oneness.
