An Abuja High Court on Thursday granted Mike Ozekhome permission to travel to the United Kingdom (UK) for medical treatment.
Naijaonpoint reports that Justice Chizoba Oji ordered that Ozekhome must return his international passport to the court on or before August 26.
Ozekhome and his co-defendant, Ponfa Useni, were arraigned on February 27 by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation on 12 counts of forgery and impersonation linked to a property dispute in the UK.
The court had earlier directed the prosecution to produce the defendants’ passports after it emerged that the documents had not been deposited with the court as part of their bail conditions.
After confirming that the passport belonged to Ozekhome, prosecution counsel, C.L. Asonta, said there was no objection to its temporary release.
Asonta, however, requested that Ozekhome return the passport “within three working days upon his return.”
Ruling, Justice Oji said, “Having considered the motion and no objection, I hereby grant the request and temporary release of the first defendant’s international passport to enable him to go for his medical trip.”
The judge held that Ozekhome’s six-week medical trip would run from July 9 to August 20. She adjourned the trial until September 28 for continuation.
The defendants have denied all allegations against them.
