GOMBE – Olabode Agoro, the Lagos State Head of Service (HoS) has commended Huaxim Building Materials (HBM) Nigeria Plc for its continued support to the State’s environmental sustainability efforts.
He made the commendation last weekend, during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Kosofe Local Government Area which was monitored by several senior Government officials including HBM Head of Geocycle, Temitope Dosunmu; and HBM Public Affairs & Communications Manager (West), Yemi Bakare.
According to Mr Agoro, maintaining a cleaner Lagos is a shared responsibility that requires the collective efforts of Government, the private sector, and residents alike.
With heavy flooding affecting some coastal cities in West Africa, following torrential rains, HBM’s intervention in Lagos has resulted in ensuring timely removal of waste and preventing it from being washed back into drainage channels, thereby contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment.
In a press release sent to our correspondent in Gombe by the Head, Corporate Communications, HBM Nigeria Plc, Ginikanwa Frank-Durugbor, the Lagos State Head of Service encouraged other corporate organizations to emulate the company’s commitment to keeping Lagos clean at all times.
The release also indicated that HBM Nigeria Plc reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability by continuing its partnership with the Lagos State Government to support the State’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
“As part of this collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and in line with HBM’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, the company deployed trucks to support the evacuation of waste generated during the sanitation exercise.
“This intervention is aimed at ensuring the timely removal of waste and preventing it from being washed back into drainage channels, thereby contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment”, Ginikanwa pointed out.
In furtherance of its commitment to sustainable waste management, HBM also sorts waste transported to the dumpsite, separating non-recyclable combustible materials for co-processing at the company’s Ewekoro Cement Plant through its Geocycle operations.
“This process promotes the circular economy by diverting suitable waste from landfills and utilizing it as an alternative fuel source”, the statement revealed.
The monthly sanitation exercise in Kosofe Local Government Area was monitored by several senior Government officials, including Mr. Olabode Agoro; Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, Mr. Mobolaji Gaaji; and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology.
Others present were, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Wealth Creation, Mrs. Ola Aina; Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Hon. Moyosore Ogunlewe; HBM Head of Geocycle, Temitope Dosunmu; and HBM Public Affairs & Communications Manager (West),Yemi Bakare.
