Accord Party’s 2027 presidential candidate, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has commended Nigeria’s security agencies for the rescue of victims abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State after about 50 days in captivity. In a statement issued over the weekend, Hashim said the operation demonstrated the capacity of the nation’s security agencies to tackle violent crime when supported by sustained political leadership and coordination.

He argued that the successful rescue should serve as a model for similar operations in other parts of the country affected by kidnapping and banditry. “The same determination that secured the freedom of the Oriire victims should be deployed in communities where innocent Nigerians remain in captivity,” he said.

Hashim, a former presidential candidate and co-chair of the Movement for Democratic Renewal (MDR), urged the Federal Government to provide stronger strategic support for the armed forces and other security agencies in the fight against insecurity.

He also cited the Nigerian military’s role in regional peacekeeping missions under the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG), saying it reflected the professionalism and capability of the country’s security forces.Hashim congratulated the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) on the rescue operation and wished the freed victims a speedy physical and psychological recovery.
