Group Urges APC To Ratify Amended Constitution

A support group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), the All APC Concerned Grassroots Supporters (AACGS), has urged the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to ratify the amended APC Constitution, saying the move would address concerns over the party’s internal structure.
The group’s Convener, Hon. Luke Jacob, made the call at a press conference in Abuja, where he expressed concern that the amended constitution had yet to receive final approval despite the review process having been completed.
According to him, the party should not proceed into future elections under the existing constitutional framework.
“APC cannot go into the general elections with the old Constitution. We hereby call, as a matter of urgency, for the immediate ratification of the already amended Constitution of the party,” he said.
Jacob said one of the key provisions of the amended constitution seeks to address what he described as discrepancies in the composition of the National Working Committee.
He noted that while some deputy national officers are members of the NWC, others, including the Deputy National Legal Adviser, Deputy National Treasurer, Deputy National Welfare Officer, Deputy National Auditor and Deputy National Youth Leader, are excluded.
According to him, the amendment is intended to ensure equal representation of all deputy national officers within the party’s leadership structure.
He also called on the APC leadership to act on the amendment within two weeks, warning that support groups could stage peaceful protests if no action is taken.
Other members of the group also appealed to the party leadership to prioritise the ratification of the amended constitution, arguing that its adoption would address unresolved issues relating to the party’s internal administration.
