Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemeti, has ordered his troops to change their military strategy in his first public appearance since the Sudanese army announced it had captured several areas in North Kordofan state.
In a recorded video released on Monday, Hemeti urged his forces to “change their way” starting immediately and called on RSF fighters to stop filming their movements, saying such videos provide the army with useful intelligence.
He also instructed his troops to comply with military rules and regulations and to protect civilians, adding: “From today, there is no sleep. It is do or die.”
Hemeti said the RSF leadership was now on the front lines and announced that he would join his forces on the battlefield during the next phase.
“There is no turning back from today. Forward. The forces must be ready,” he said.
Hemeti’s appearance came hours after Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council chairman and army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan toured the Umm Sayala area and the town of Jabra al-Sheikh in North Kordofan, a day after the army announced it had taken control of both locations.
Early on Sunday, the Sudanese army said it had captured the towns of Bara and Jabra al-Sheikh, as well as the Umm Sayala area, following battles with the RSF.
