“I Didn’t Resign” — Carlos Queiroz Denies Quitting As Black Stars Coach Amid Confusion

Former Black Stars head coach Carlos Manuel Queiroz has pushed back on widespread reports that he resigned from his position, insisting his emotional social media post following Ghana’s World Cup exit was never intended as a resignation.

The confusion began after Queiroz shared a lengthy, farewell-toned message on Instagram following Ghana’s 1-0 Round of 32 defeat to Colombia, thanking the Ghana Football Association, players, and fans for their support during his brief tenure.

Several media outlets interpreted … as confirmation that the Portuguese tactician had stepped down.

However, Carlos Queiroz has since clarified that … was solely intended as an expression of gratitude to the nation, not a formal resignation, and that it was misunderstood and misinterpreted by the public. Speaking to a Ghanaian abroad who reached out to him directly regarding his sudden departure, the 73-year-old explicitly denied tendering any resignation.

The Ghana Football Association has not issued an official statement confirming either his continued role or his departure, leaving his status with the national team unresolved as of the time of filing this report.

Carlos Queiroz was appointed in April 2026 on a short-term deal to lead Ghana’s World Cup campaign following the dismissal of Otto Addo. Under his charge, the Black Stars reached the knockout stage for the first time since 2010, defeating Panama and holding England to a draw before their tournament ended against Colombia.
