The Ibeno Clan Council in Akwa Ibom State has urged the new leadership of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio to uphold the values of unity, peace and service, while expressing concern over remarks attributed to the President of the Ekid People’s Union (EPU), Dr Samuel Udonsak. The council made the call in a statement issued on Sunday by its Secretary, Chief Okon Udofia, who spoke on behalf of the Paramount Ruler of Ibeno at Upenekang.
Udofia commended Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio for the peaceful inauguration of its 12th International President and Executive Council, describing the transition as an example of institutional stability. However, he criticised Udonsak’s remarks at the inauguration, alleging that they were inconsistent with the theme of unity and peaceful coexistence emphasised by other speakers.
The council said the remarks, which it claimed touched on territorial issues involving the Oro-Obolo people, could deepen divisions among communities. Udofia rejected claims concerning Okposo I and Okposo II, insisting that the communities are located in Ibeno Local Government Area and are regarded by the council as Obolo communities.
He said disputes over history and territorial boundaries should be addressed through appropriate legal and institutional channels rather than cultural platforms.The council urged the new Mboho leadership to remain focused on promoting unity and peaceful coexistence across Akwa Ibom. It also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peaceful relations with all ethnic groups, including the Ekid people.
