Time isn’t healing the wounds for one of Bryan Kohberger‘s alleged victims’ sisters.
Her emotional statement comes after the convicted Idaho killer attempted to rescind his previous guilty plea. He claimed that he accepted responsibility for the murders of four university students, Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin, because of “false promises.”
Bryan Kohberger initially escaped the death penalty by pleading guilty and is currently serving four consecutive life sentences for the murder of the university students without the possibility of parole.
5Kaylee Goncalves’ younger sister, Aubrie, has put her feelings in black and white, expressing how deep the wound of her sister’s brutal murder runs in their family.
“1,352 days. That’s how long it’s been since Ethan Chapin, Kaylee Goncalves, Maddie Mogen, and Xana Kernodle were murdered,” the victim’s sister’s statement began.
She continued, writing that she planned to remain silent but changed her mind after seeing that Kohberger had moved to withdraw his guilty plea. Aubrie added that while the alleged killer feels that his actions may be just another legal filing, to her it means another day without her sister.
Aubrie wrote about the relationship between Kaylee and her bestfriend Mogen, who had become part of their family and was just like a sister to her. Losing two of the most important people in her life had changed her life in unforgettable ways.
In the statement shared to the Goncalves family Facebook page, Aubrie stated that every birthday, holiday, and special occasion will never remain the same since the fateful November 13, 2022 murders.
She stressed that life was snatched from her sister and her friends while they were asleep in the place they should have been safest. “They were silenced without a choice, without a second thought,” she wrote.

5Further down in the emotional statement, Aubrie raised the question of why Kohberger, who previously admitted to committing the brutal crime, is being given a continuous chance to tell his story when her sister and friends never did.
She emphasized that her family and the families of the other victims are forced to relive the tragedy every time the case is brought into the spotlight when a new filing is made. The media attention increases, and their pain is turned into entertainment for views and online clicks.
“This isn’t a Netflix documentary. This isn’t a conspiracy theory. This isn’t entertainment. This is my life. These were real people,” Aubrie wrote before doubling down on the vital pieces of evidence from the case.
She explained in the post how the results of the investigations point to Kohberger, including eyewitness testimony, recovered DNA sample, cellphone tower details, and forensic evidence. While everything seems to be content to strangers, Aubrie and her family have to live with the reality that their precious daughter/ sister “has been reduced to an urn sitting” in the house.
The Convicted Idaho Student Killer Wants Another Trial
5Kohberger has claimed innocence in his first-ever prison interview and is looking to withdraw his guilty plea and proceed to trial. He alleged that he was deceived into accepting the plea deal.
He also claimed that his defense attorneys, led by Anne Taylor, manipulated him into a “broken plea” by withholding exculpatory evidence, scaring him about death row, and making false promises about better prison conditions.
The convicted killer has maintained an “absolute claim of innocence,” stating that his “plea, hinged on by false promises and blatant disinformation, MUST be withdrawn.” It should be noted that if his plea is successfully withdrawn and the case goes to trial, the death penalty would be back on the table.
He also claimed that the evidence against him went unchecked and was not given the chance to be challenged at trial. As shared by The Blast, Kohberger, via his statement, dismissed the prosecution’s established timeline of events, tagging them a narrow and “myopic narrative” that produced nothing more than “a work of fiction.”

5Kaylee’s father, Steve Goncalves, broke his silence after the shocking development in Kohberger’s case made headlines. While many are clamoring for the convicted killer’s option at a second chance, Steve surprisingly is all for it.
Steve explained that Kohberger having his day in court would be another chance to hold him accountable and pay the maximum price for his actions, as shared by The Blast.
“I’d love to have the second shot at the accused murderer. I would love for us to be able to reline him up and hold him accountable to the full extent of what he’s done. … I would love it,” the father of late Kaylee stated.
Notwithstanding, Steve acknowledged that the process would reopen old wounds that have not fully healed for members of his community and family. He stated that he has hope in the process and strongly believes that his daughter’s killer would be brought to justice if he faces trial.
Legal Experts Maintain Bryan Kohberger Is Fighting A Lost Battle
5The Idaho student convicted of the four murders alleged that there is a piece of evidence that absolves him of the crime, which he was kept in the dark about. He argued that forensic evidence showed that “clumps of hair found in Ethan Chapin’s hands” did not belong to him, pointing fingers at a possible different suspect.
Kohberger alleges that he was unaware of this hair evidence and that if he did, he would not have agreed to the plea deal. In addition to shining light on this evidence, he would also have to prove his legal team was incompetent.
However, local attorney Ryan Black said that Kohberger’s claims have him “grasping at straws.” Black explained that he is trying to find something to prove that there is some merit to his claim, but in his opinion the chances that Kohberger would succeed are “almost zero.”
The Blast also reported that other legal experts agree with Black, stating that the hair evidence is “the only possible narrow path there would be for him to actually withdraw his guilty plea.”
