President Bola Tinubu has urged governors of the six North-East states to intensify efforts against terrorism and banditry, saying the region’s security challenges require stronger cooperation.
Speaking on Thursday while receiving political leaders and government officials from Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe states at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu said, “Only when we stick together, think together, and face the challenges the best way possible as a united country do we prevail.”
The President also said Nigeria’s economy had become more stable, describing the current period as the golden age.
According to him, “If you can stabilise the economy, Nigerians are not asking for too much, simple stability and social welfare.”
Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration would continue working to improve the country, saying, “We are never going to look back. Nigeria will survive.”
He said his government had fulfilled its promises to improve road infrastructure in the North-East, citing the ongoing Akwanga–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri Superhighway project.
The President also said his administration was clearing unpaid pensions inherited from previous governments.
“I am clearing the mess created before me, but I won’t complain,” he said.
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, who led the delegation, said they visited to thank Tinubu for retaining Vice-President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
Zulum said the President had shown leadership by rewarding “loyalty, competence, and commitment.” He also thanked political leaders from the North-Central and North-West for supporting the decision.
The governor praised the administration’s road projects, support for displaced persons, and investments in education, agriculture and job creation.
He pledged that the North-East would strongly support Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
