Lagos Passionate Lions Club under the Lions International, District 405B5 Nigeria, recently planted trees to help improve the environment, as part of their July service activity.

At the tree planting exercise, which took place at Dairy Farm Senior Secondary School, Agege, Lagos, about 50 various types of trees were planted under the supervision of the club’s president Lion Emeka Enwemasor.

At the event Enwemasor spoke about the importance of tree planting, “trees are basically multi-taskers for the planet and for us. They help beautify the environment. Without trees there will be no clean air, climate control and now that the rains are here, trees will help reduce flooding and erosion. In a place like Lagos with heat, flooding, and air pollution, planting trees tackles several problems at once.”

According to him, the world is facing many challenges today, like global warming, because the environment is neglected.

“He who plants a tree, plants hope. With this gesture, we bring hope to our communities,” he said.

Also speaking, activity chairperson, Lion Eunice Ufua, said the exercise was to help increase the number of trees in the environment, “when we came for a district program, we discovered there was no flowers or trees and we all know that trees and flowers beautifies environments. aside from that it tree planting help to prevent erosion and give us good Oxygen. So we decided our next project will be to beautify the environment by increasing trees and flowers plantings to help with air purification and ventilation.”

She also spoke about maintenance, “for everything being done, sustainability is very important. From time to time we at Lagos Passionate Lions Club will revisit to ensure that the trees and flowers are well kept, this will show how serious we are otherwise what we did will be forfeited,” she said.
