The Lagos State Taskforce has arrested 46 suspected criminal elements during a coordinated enforcement operation across several parts of the state, recovering a locally made dane gun, suspected hard drugs, and other dangerous weapons.
The operation, conducted on Friday as part of the agency’s ongoing clean-up and security enforcement campaign, targeted areas identified as criminal flashpoints, including Muri-Okunola Park in Victoria Island, Obalende Underbridge, Law School Junction, Maroko, Sandfill near Mobil Bus Stop, and Marwa Bus Stop along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs of the Lagos State Taskforce, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the exercise was aimed at removing street urchins, miscreants, drug addicts, drug peddlers, illegal commercial motorcyclists, street traders, illegal ticket touts and other criminal elements from public spaces.
The agency said 46 suspects were apprehended during the operation.
Items recovered from the suspects included substances suspected to be Indian hemp, Colorado and cannabis, a UTC cutlass, and a dane gun described as a locally fabricated metal object resembling a pistol but incapable of firing live ammunition.
The Taskforce said normalcy had been restored in all the locations visited following the operation.
It added that all suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the provisions of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017, and the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
Speaking at the agency’s headquarters after the operation, the Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, reiterated the government’s resolve to sustain the crackdown on criminal activities across the state.
He said the agency would not give criminal elements any breathing space, stressing that enforcement operations would continue in all parts of Lagos to maintain public order, improve environmental sanity and ensure the safety of residents.
