Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has said his administration will prioritise the reunion and rehabilitation of the pupils and teachers rescued after spending 56 days in captivity.
The governor said the victims would receive the necessary support to recover from the physical and emotional effects of their ordeal before fully returning to their families and communities.
Makinde stated this in a post on his 𝕏 account on Friday, following the rescue of the victims abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
He expressed relief over their safe return after nearly two months in the custody of their abductors.
The governor said the state government’s immediate focus was to ensure that the rescued pupils and teachers were properly reunited with their loved ones.
He added that adequate care would be provided to help them overcome the trauma associated with their prolonged captivity.
“Our priority now is to ensure they are reunited with their families and support their rehabilitation after this traumatic experience,” Makinde said.
The governor did not provide details of the rehabilitation programme but assured that the victims would receive the support required for their recovery.
Makinde also praised the security agencies and other personnel who participated in the operation that led to the victims’ release.
He commended their courage, professionalism and sacrifices during the rescue effort.
“We also commend the security agencies that took part in the rescue operations for their sacrifices,” he said.
The governor also paid tribute to security personnel who lost their lives during the operation and extended condolences to their families.
“May the souls of those who paid the ultimate price rest in peace, and may God comfort their families,” Makinde added.
