The soldiers of Sector 6 of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP) successfully protected the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) located in Kuru, Plateau State from a midnight attack by suspected criminals.
The Nigeria Army revealed that the attempted attack took place around 12:10 am on Thursday when the criminals attempted to scale the fence of the strategically important organization in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area.

In a statement issued through the Army’s official X handle, the soldiers on patrol promptly reacted, engaging the criminals in a gun battle which resulted in the death of one of the criminals while the others sustained injuries before fleeing towards the surrounding hills.
No Army personnel was harmed in the process.
Following the incident, soldiers found an AK-style gun with registration number CO-3175, which was used by the neutralized suspect.
The gun, containing 16 bullets of caliber 7.62mm Special, was found to be among the ones that were once stolen from a soldier in the Nigerian Army killed during an encounter with unknown militia at the Federal College of Land Resources Technology, Vom, Nigeria, on April 11, 2026.
Army spokesperson confirmed that the recovered rifle is being held while investigations are carried out to find out any links of the attacks with other past security incidents in the Kuru-Vom axis.

The body of the dead suspect has been removed to a mortuary while soldiers are engaging in a manhunt for the fleeing attackers.
The Army disclosed that the military has boosted its patrols and clearance activities within NIPSS Kuru and environs to avoid future attacks and boost the security within the environment.
It also stressed that the security situation is well in control and all activities are ongoing without any interruption at the institution and its neighboring communities.
Restating its readiness to protect lives and infrastructures, the Nigerian Army reiterated its call on citizens to be alert, engage in their lawful activities, and inform security operatives of any suspicious movement or activity in their environment as the public’s collaboration was crucial for improving security situation in the state.
