The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, has commended the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) for using community-based projects to promote digital literacy and human capital development.
Ekpo gave the commendation on Saturday at the inauguration of an ICT centre built and equipped by the NCDMB at Ika Comprehensive High School, Ikot Akpan Anwa, Akwa Ibom State. He described the facility as a strategic investment that would expand access to digital education, research and e-learning while supporting sustainable development.
The centre features a computer laboratory with 50 networked desktop computers, an interactive smart board, projector, server room and Starlink high-speed internet. It can accommodate up to 70 users and is supported by a 15kVA generator and a 15kVA solar power system with battery backup.Ekpo said the project aligned with the Federal Government’s priorities on education, youth empowerment, digital transformation and inclusive growth.
Representing NCDMB Executive Secretary Felix Ogbe, the Director of Corporate Services, Abdulmalik Halilu, said digital literacy was central to the board’s human capital development mandate. He urged the school and host community to ensure the facility was properly maintained and used to deliver measurable benefits to students.
The project team, led by Standard Institute of Technology Limited Managing Director Alexander Nsidibe, pledged one year of post-handover maintenance support.The school’s principal, Nkom Umoette, said the centre would help bridge the digital gap and improve students’ access to computer-based learning and examinations.
