Naija Live TV has pledged its support for an anti-drug sensitisation campaign planned by the United Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) for secondary schools across Bayelsa State.
The station’s Chief Executive Officer, Saint Mienpamo Onitsha, gave the assurance when the newly elected executive of the United Correspondents Chapel, Bayelsa State Council, paid him a courtesy visit in Yenagoa. Onitsha described the NUJ, particularly its Bayelsa State Council, as a family and expressed the station’s willingness to collaborate with the chapel on initiatives that benefit young people.
He also spoke about challenges facing media organisations, citing previous legal disputes involving Naija Live TV and stressing the need for government officials and politicians to allow journalists to work without undue interference. “Media work is not an easy task. They should let us breathe,” Onitsha said, appealing to authorities to respect the role of the media and the jobs supported by media organisations.
Earlier, the Chairman of the United Correspondents Chapel, Amgbare Ekaunkumo, said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration with Naija Live TV and seeking support for the chapel’s planned sensitisation programme in selected secondary schools in Yenagoa. He said the programme, themed “Menace of Drug Abuse, Cultism, Cybercrime and the Future of Bayelsa Students,” would address social vices affecting young people.
Ekaunkumo commended Naija Live TV for its reporting and youth-focused programmes, expressing confidence that the partnership would strengthen news dissemination and public sensitisation efforts.
