Osun State Directorate of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has urged medical practitioners to uphold professionalism, patriotism, empathy and ethical conduct while avoiding negligence and other practices capable of undermining public confidence in the healthcare system.
The advice was contained in a statement issued in Osogbo on Wednesday, by the Osun State Director of the agency, Adebiyi Adefarasin Stephen.
Adebiyi also congratulated medical doctors across Nigeria on the 2026 National Doctors’ Day and commended their dedication to saving lives and promoting public health.
Commenting on the year 2026 theme, “Honour the Calling,” he said it reflected the noble responsibility of the medical profession.
He described medicine as a lifelong commitment that extends beyond a career, noting that doctors remain at the forefront of efforts to restore hope and improve the wellbeing of citizens.
According to him, “doctors serving in primary healthcare centres, specialist facilities and tertiary hospitals continue to play indispensable roles in delivering quality healthcare across Osun State and the country.
“From emergency wards to operating theatres, our doctors stand daily between sickness and healing, fear and reassurance, and often between life and death.”
He added, “Behind every white coat lies sacrifice, discipline, long hours, emotional strain, and unwavering dedication to humanity.
“At this critical stage of our nation’s development, Osun State and Nigeria need medical professionals who are not only highly skilled, but also guided by integrity and a deep sense of duty to country.”
Adebiyi also appealed to residents to show greater respect, appreciation and cooperation towards healthcare workers in hospitals and clinics across the state.
“Your sacrifices do not go unnoticed. Your service saves lives, restores dignity, and gives hope to countless families,” he concluded.
