The National Economic Council (NEC) Implementation Monitoring Committee has commended the Taraba State Government for its investments in agriculture, infrastructure and security during an inspection of major development projects in Jalingo. The commendation followed a visit by the committee’s North-East Zonal Monitoring Team to assess the implementation of NEC resolutions and ongoing government projects in the state.
The delegation, led by the Borno State Commissioner for Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Mayana Yaumi, inspected the state’s ultra-modern abattoir, Agricultural Mechanisation Centre, Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) facilities, greenhouse project and housing development for military personnel at the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army Barracks.
Yaumi said the monitoring exercise was aimed at assessing compliance with NEC resolutions and determining whether projects were delivering their intended socio-economic benefits. He said the abattoir was substantially completed, with equipment installation remaining, while the mechanisation centre had received tractors, combine harvesters and other equipment to support agricultural production.
The committee also commended activities at the L-PRES facility and the ongoing military housing project, noting their potential to support livestock development and strengthen security.Yaumi urged the state government to ensure the sustainability and maintenance of completed projects.
Responding, the Permanent Secretary, Taraba State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mrs Sarah Ali Sabo Danjuma, said the government remained committed to sustaining its development initiatives. She disclosed that the state had approved the construction of boreholes to provide water for the greenhouse project and address one of its operational challenges.
