Northwest University Dismisses 34 Students, 18 Rusticated Over Examination Malpractice

The Senate of Northwest University, Kano, has expelled 34 students and rusticated 18 others for their involvement in examination misconduct during the 2024/2025 academic session.
The university announced the students’ expulsion on Monday, June 29, 2026. Public Relations Head Abubakar Ibrahim issued the statement for Registrar Dr Isyaku Adamu.
Based on the official release published on Wednesday, the university’s Senate authorized the expulsion of the concerned students during its 66th regular meeting held on Wednesday, June 17, and Thursday, June 18, 2026.
The statement said, “The Senate of the university at its 66th statutory meeting held on Wednesday, 17th and Thursday, 18th June 2026 approved the recommendations of the Senate Committee on Examination Misconduct arising from the Second Semester 2024/2025 Examination.”
The statement further explained that the action was taken in accordance with the university’s Examination Regulations as contained in the Students’ Handbook.
In addition to the expulsions, the Senate approved the rustication of 18 students, while 22 others were issued warning letters for various examination-related offences.
The statement further disclosed that one student, Rukayya Ahmad Zukuri, was exonerated after the case against her was reviewed.
The university reiterated its commitment to upholding academic integrity and urged all students to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations governing examinations.
