NYSC Benue State Coordinator Visits DSS, Strengthens Collaboration On Corps Members’ Security

The Benue State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Veronica Garba, has paid a courtesy visit to the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Benue State Command, Mr. Vincent Aitsebaomo.

The visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration on the security and welfare of Corps Members in the state.

Speaking during the visit, Mrs. Garba congratulated the Director on his assumption of office and commended the DSS for its prompt response to security issues involving the NYSC.

She explained that the visit was aimed at reinforcing the long-standing partnership between both organisations to ensure the safety and well-being of Corps Members during the Orientation Course and throughout their service year.

The State Coordinator also appreciated the DSS for consistently deploying professional personnel to provide security at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Wannune, and appealed for the Service’s continued support to sustain the success of orientation activities.

In his response, the Director, Mr. Vincent Aitsebaomo, a Fellow of the Defence College, stressed the importance of security consciousness among Corps Members.

He advised them not to wear the NYSC uniform while travelling and urged them to always inform someone of their travel plans, use only registered commercial vehicles, and avoid night journeys.

Mr. Aitsebaomo also expressed concern over the growing incidence of drug abuse among young people, warning that it could jeopardise their future employment prospects.

He called on the NYSC to intensify its campaign against drug abuse among Corps Members.

He further recommended that Local Government Inspectors identify schools and establishments located outside urban centres and deploy Corps Members to such locations in groups to enhance their safety and provide mutual support.

The DSS Director reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to providing security personnel and strengthening its partnership with the NYSC in safeguarding Corps Members across Benue State.

The visit concluded with both organisations renewing their commitment to deeper collaboration in promoting the security, welfare, and overall well-being of Corps Members serving in Benue State.
