A 41-year-old man, Friday Joseph, on Thursday, appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing goats.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on a two-count charge of stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offence sometime in March 2026 in Igede-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant and others at large stole 20 goats valued at N800,000 belonging to Ojo Aina and three others yet unknown.
Apata also alleged that the defendant and others at large sometime in June 2026, allegedly stole 40 goats valued N1.2million.
According to him, the stolen goats belong to Busayo Olorunfemi and five others yet unknown at Aramoko-Ekiti.
The offences, he said, contravened Section 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Miss Joy Egbuson, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr Olatomiwa Daramola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Daramola said that the sureties must pay the sum of N50,000 interest to the judiciary yielding account.
He adjourned the case till July 28 for hearing.
