Relief in Ekiti as Dr. Rufus Ojo Ajayi Reveals Behind-the-Scenes Efforts That Secured Freedom of 15 Abducted CAC Worshippers

After 67 agonising days in captivity, relief has finally come to Eda Oniyo-Ekiti as 15 abducted worshippers of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Igbala, regained their freedom late Friday night, July 3, 2026.

The National President of the Eda Oniyo Progressive Union, Dr. Rufus Ojo Ajayi, has now shed light on the intense and coordinated efforts that led to their release, describing the process as both challenging and deeply emotional for the entire community.

Recounting the events surrounding the abduction, which occurred on April 28, 2026, in Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Dr. Ajayi highlighted the critical roles played by multiple stakeholders. He commended the Ekiti State Government, security agencies, local hunters, and Amotekun operatives for their unwavering commitment to securing the victims’ freedom.

According to him, the operation was a testament to the power of unity and collaboration, as traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents worked closely with security forces, sharing vital intelligence and maintaining sustained pressure that ultimately led to the captives’ release.

While the return of the victims has been widely celebrated, the community continues to mourn the tragic loss of one of the abductees who died in captivity, a painful reminder of the human cost of insecurity.

Dr. Ajayi used the moment to call for heightened vigilance across the community, urging residents to remain alert and proactive. He emphasized the importance of continuous cooperation with security agencies, stressing that timely information-sharing remains one of the most effective tools in combating crime.

“This experience has shown us that security is a collective responsibility,” he noted, calling on all stakeholders to strengthen existing structures to prevent a recurrence.
