The Sokoto State Government, under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project, has initiated the bidding process for a significant infrastructure upgrade in 100 schools across the state. This initiative aims to equip schools with digital teaching materials, solar power systems, and essential furniture for classrooms, laboratories, and administrative blocks. The project also includes the procurement of consumable and non-consumable materials for livelihood training.
The bid opening ceremony took place at the AGILE Project Office on Garba Nadama Road, Sokoto, drawing 31 companies eager to compete for the contracts. The event was officially declared open by Professor Ahmad Ladan Ala, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, through Dr. Sanusi Aliyu Binji, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry.
Dr. Binji assured bidders of a transparent and fair process, emphasising the government’s commitment to quality over cost and the rejection of substandard work. He highlighted the administration’s dedication to enhancing educational standards through competent contractors.
Dr. Binji praised the AGILE Project Management Team for their effective work on school construction and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facilities. He also acknowledged Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s support for education and called on stakeholders to maintain their commitment to improving educational standards.
Dr. Mansur Isah Buhari, the Sokoto State AGILE Project Coordinator, represented by Deputy Project Coordinator Dr. Kabir Garba Gobir, urged successful bidders to adhere strictly to contract terms for timely project delivery.
The event featured goodwill messages from Shehu Aliyu, Executive Secretary of the Female Education Board; Nasiru Shehu, representing the State Due Process Office; and Muhammad Ikililu Abubakar, State President of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS).
Dr. Nura Bello Abubakar, Executive Secretary of the State Agency for Mass Education, concluded the event by thanking all participants and reaffirming the procurement process’s adherence to due process and transparency.
Notable attendees included Abubakar Abdullahi, Director of Examinations Matters; Abdulkadir Umar Alkammawa, Director of Quality Assurance; Badamasi Garba Giwa, Director of Finance; Suleiman Musa, AGILE Components Lead; and other senior government officials and education stakeholders.
