Sunday Igboho, also known as Sunday Adeyemo, established his security group, code-named “Iru Ekun Security Network,” in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Igboho introduced the group on Thursday, stating that it was established to support the government’s and traditional security agencies’ efforts to combat violent crimes like as b@nditry and k!dn@pping in the impacted communities.
He emphasized that criminal groups would no longer be permitted to utilize the state’s forests as safe havens and stated that the group will seek to recapture woodlands in Kwara from b@ndits.
He noted that the presence of the Iru Ekun Security Network in Kwara had already unsettled the criminals, disclosing that the group was heading to Babanla, an area many now describe as a stronghold of b@ndits.
He added that they had also passed through Eruku on their way from Kogi State and would return there, describing the area as their ancestral land which no criminal could force them to abandon, and insisting that those hiding in their forests could not intimidate them into surrendering their communities.
Igboho explained that the mission in Kwara was to complement the efforts of government and security agencies, noting that while local communities could contribute to protecting themselves, that alone was not enough.
He said there was a need to work hand in hand with the police, the military and other security agencies, adding that uniting in this way could drastically reduce k!dn@pping, b@nditry and every other form of t3rrorism in society.
He said b@nditry had persisted because some members of local communities were providing information and support to criminals, and urged residents, especially youths, to help expose criminal elements, warning those aiding b@ndits to stop or face the consequences.
He dismissed claims that the Iru Ekun Security Network was established to target Fulani people, insisting it would go after criminals regardless of ethnicity.
He advised that anyone suspected of aiding b@ndits, if unarmed, should be handed over to the police rather than subjected to jungle justice, but added that anyone carrying sophisticated weapons in the forests or attempting to invade communities posed an immediate threat to innocent lives and must be stopped before carrying out any att@ck.
Igboho commended Adekimi Ojo, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, for his professionalism and willingness to collaborate with local security initiatives.
He also dismissed rumours that AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, governor of Kwara State, had opposed his visit to the state, saying he found such claims difficult to believe given his knowledge of the governor’s character.
He added that he believed the governor was deeply concerned about the persistent k!llings and k!dn@ppings in Kwara, noting that this concern was reflected in the deployment of security agencies to protect the people.
Igboho further credited President Bola Tinubu with the establishment of the Iru Ekun Security Network and prayed for the president’s continued good health and a successful completion of his tenure.
