The medical drama The Pitt and the comedy series Hacks have emerged as the frontrunners for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, securing 25 and 24 nominations, respectively.
The official announcement was made on Wednesday by actors Liza Colón-Zayas and Jeff Hiller at the Television Academy’s Saban Media Centre in Los Angeles. With its 24 nods, Hacks broke the all-time record for the most Emmy nominations received by a comedy series in a single year, surpassing the previous record of 23 set by The Bear in 2024.
Other top-performing shows include Widow’s Bay with 19 nominations, Pluribus with 18, and Beef with 16. Notably, actor Matthew Rhys achieved a rare milestone by earning two separate lead acting nominations in the same year—one for his comedy role in Widow’s Bay and another in the limited series category for The Beast in Me.
The main award ceremony is scheduled to take place on September 14 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles and will be hosted by American actress Mariska Hargitay.
