Tom Cruise Under Fire Over Revived Claims Scientology Ruined Relationship With Daughter Suri As She Drops Last Name

Tom Cruise‘s close link to the Church of Scientology has come under renewed scrutiny after his daughter Suri Noelle‘s decision to sever ties with him by ditching his last name.
Claims that the actor had to distance himself from the 20-year-old due to the religious organization’s alleged rules resurfaced online, leading to backlash, with many blaming him for the fractured relationship.
Tom Cruise has previously commented on the state of his relationship with Suri, admitting that his ties to Scientology were linked to his split from Katie Holmes and estrangement from his daughter.
Cruise has found himself at the center of a heated debate on social media after it was confirmed that his daughter had legally cut ties with him by officially dropping his last name.
The conversation, which initially centered on the actor’s years-long estrangement from Suri, quickly devolved into claims that his religious organization was the sole cause of his ruined relationship with his biological daughter.
Past reports quickly resurfaced, including a deposition in which Cruise admitted that Scientology played a role in his divorce from his ex-wife, Holmes, who wanted to protect her daughter from the religion.
In the same deposition from 2013, it was revealed that the actor had not seen his daughter for over 100 days. However, at the time, Cruise also fiercely pushed back at claims that he had abandoned Suri.
Reacting to the news of Suri’s recent decision to drop Cruise’s last name, journalist Yashar Ali commended the 20-year-old, while stating that the actor “abandoned” his biological daughter out of fear of his religion, Scientology.
“A reminder: Tom Cruise believes that having any sort of connection to Suri will impede Scientology and could possibly cause him to become sick or injured,” the reporter wrote in a viral post on X, with almost 7 million views.
“He also believes that by remaining connected to her in any way, he is committing a suppressive act, is a danger to Scientology, and is therefore a danger to the future of humanity,” Ali continued. “This is all because her mom was declared a suppressive person, an enemy of Scientology. As a result, Suri is considered PTS, a potential trouble source.”
The Actor’s Religious Ties Have Divided Fans After His Daughter’s Legal Move
6Reacting to claims that Suri’s name change may be linked to her father’s religious organization, several criticized the actor for choosing Scientology, while some argued that his split from Holmes was the main issue.
“That Scientology sh-t is weird as f-ck, like that’s your f-cking kid. What the hell is going on?” one user asked.
Another noted, “If your religion makes you abandon your own children, your religion is the problem, unless your kid’s a murderer or all around not a good person, and I highly doubt that’s the case. I like his movies, but in real life he’s an idiot.”
A third person wrote, “That’s why he doesn’t speak to her? That’s insane. He is very close with his adopted children.”
“All the more reasons I won’t watch Tom Cruise films. He also treated Nicole Kidman very poorly. Cults are bad,” one more critic claimed.
Besides Suri, Cruise shares two adopted kids, Isabella and Connor, with his former wife, Nicole Kidman, and according to reports, they are also staunch Scientologists like their father.
Tom Cruise’s Older Kids ‘Don’t Exist’ To His Estranged Daughter Suri
6Regarding Cruise’s older kids, Isabella, 33, and Connor, 31, whom he adopted during his marriage to Kidman, they are believed to have a non-existent relationship with their half-sister, Suri.
An insider who spoke to the Daily Mail in 2024 shared that there’s no contact between the siblings, mostly due to the fact that they are also Scientologists.
“They haven’t had contact in a decade, and there are several reasons why,” the insider said. “First and foremost is the church of Scientology. Suri’s father and brother do not associate with her because of their devotion to the church, so why would she have a relationship with her siblings?”
6“Secondly, there is some jealousy from Connor and Isabella when it comes to Suri because she is Tom’s biological child,” the source further noted at the time.
“They are grateful that they were adopted, but having no relationship with their mom, her family, Suri, and that entire circle has made them feel outcast,” the insider added.
Suri Cruise Does Not Want To ‘Rely’ On Her Famous Father Or His Name
6Before it was confirmed that Suri had officially dropped the name Cruise, she was already publicly going by “Suri Noelle,” which pays tribute to her mother, Katie Holmes, as it is the actress’s middle name.
During her final years in LaGuardia High School, her surname change was spotted in the casting sheet for a show she starred in and subsequently was used to introduce her during her graduation.
At the time, insiders also shared that Suri was resolute about keeping her distance from her father, especially after turning 18 in 2024.
“Suri will not have any contact with her father, despite being 18, and even if he called, she would not answer,” a source told the Daily Mail. “He does not exist to Katie or Suri, and his daughter does not want to rely on him for anything.”
The insider further emphasized the young adult’s ultimate loyalty, stating, “She feels that she has one parent and that is her mother.”
Tom Cruise Once Declared That He Would ‘Always Be There’ For His Children
6The actor’s complete separation from Suri stands in sharp contrast to the idyllic picture painted when she was born in 2006.
Back then, the action star candidly poured his heart out to Vanity Fair, confessing that parenthood was his ultimate dream.
“I always said to myself that my children would be able to depend on me and I would always be there for them and love them — that I’d never make a promise to my kids that I couldn’t keep,” Cruise declared during the interview.
He doubled down on his hands-on parenting philosophy at the time, noting, “I’m not one of those people who believe you can spoil a child with too much love. You can never give a child too much love. There’s just no way.”
