Violent drone attacks targeted bases of Iranian Kurdish opposition parties in Iraq’s Kurdistan region on Monday evening, after air defences intercepted drones over the city of Erbil, according to Iraqi media.
The US-led international coalition also shot down an Iranian drone in the border area of Soran near Iran, the same sources said.
Iraqi news agency Shafaq News reported that the headquarters of two Iranian Kurdish opposition parties were targeted in separate attacks involving three drones in the Bahrka and Khalifan areas, north of Erbil province. No casualties were reported.
The agency quoted Karim Barouzi, a senior official in the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI), as saying that a drone struck the party’s Jiznikan camp in the Bahrka area, north of Erbil.

Barouzi said the drone crashed into a house inside the camp, adding that preliminary information showed there were no injuries or material damage.
In a separate attack, Amjad Hussein, a member of the political bureau of the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan, said one of the party’s camps in the Khalifan area, north of Erbil, was targeted by drones.
Iranian Kurdish opposition groups, such as the KDPI and Komala, maintain bases in Iraq’s Erbil province. These political and militant organisations target the Iranian government to advocate for Kurdish rights and regional autonomy.
