Chelsea and England legend, John Terry, has shared his prediction for the World Cup final featuring Argentina and Spain.
Spain secured their spot in the final on Sunday in New Jersey with a remarkable 2-0 victory over the tournament favorites, France.
France was tipped to reach the final as the leading team of the World Cup, yet they were outperformed by the European champions, Spain.
Luis de la Fuente’s Spain will play against Argentina in the final on Sunday after the defending champions staged a comeback to defeat England in the second semi-final.
While Terry was impressed by the ‘grit’ Argentina showed against England and says anything is possible with all-time great Lionel Messi in the side, the legendary defender expect Spain to lift the World Cup trophy.
He stated to Sports Uncensored, “Having attended both semi-finals, I must express that I consider Spain to be the favorites.
“Both teams exhibit remarkable comfort with the ball and in maintaining possession. However, I observed Argentina last night, where all their actions predominantly occurred on the right side with Lionel Messi.
“Whenever they attempted to shift to the left, the play swiftly reverted back to the right. Marc Cucurella was awarded man of the match in the first semi-final, and Spain appears to be particularly formidable on the left flank.
“Moreover, their ability to not concede against France and their minimal goals against in the World Cup is astonishing. In my view, they possess too much strength for Argentina.
“Argentina certainly poses a significant threat, and as demonstrated throughout this World Cup, they have a knack for finding solutions. With a player of Messi’s caliber, there will always be a chance and an opportunity.
“Nonetheless, I believe Spain will prove to be superior to this Argentine team. That said, I must acknowledge that they displayed a resilience last night that is rare among teams, showcasing grit and toughness.
“What I particularly appreciated about their performance against England was how, after every tackle, all the players would rush in, creating a bit of a scuffle.
“They were so together, they’ve got grit about them, but I still think Spain will edge it.”
