Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal Honours Tinubu at Historic State House Press Corps Presidential Dinner

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, PhD, joined an array of top government officials, media executives, and distinguished guests at the maiden State House Press Corps Presidential Dinner held on Thursday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The high-profile event marked a significant moment in Nigeria’s media and governance landscape, with one of its standout highlights being the formal investiture of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Grand Patron of the State House Press Corps by Governor Lawal. The symbolic gesture underscored the administration’s recognition of the critical role the media plays in strengthening democratic governance and accountability.

Organised to foster stronger relationships between journalists and government officials, the dinner served as both a celebration of excellence in presidential reporting and a platform for open, informal engagement between policymakers and the press.

In his keynote address, President Tinubu charged journalists to remain steadfast in upholding truth, balance, and responsibility in their reportage. He described the media as indispensable partners in Nigeria’s democratic journey and reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to protecting constitutional guarantees of press freedom and freedom of expression.

The historic gathering was hosted by the State House Press Corps, comprising journalists accredited to cover the presidency, and drew participation from some of the nation’s most influential leaders.

Notable attendees included the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; as well as ministers overseeing key portfolios such as Finance, Education, Health, Agriculture, and Information. Also present was the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack.
