APC fixes August 22 for legislative primaries in seven states

The All Progressives Congress has scheduled August 22, 2026, for its primary elections to select candidates for restored State House of Assembly seats and legislative bye-elections across Delta, Kogi, Gombe, Bauchi and Kano states.

The party announced the date in a timetable signed by its National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s restoration of four previously suppressed constituencies in Delta and Kogi.

The affected Delta constituencies are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II, while Yagba West II is in Kogi State.

APC releases timetable for primaries

The APC said the sale of nomination forms would run from August 18 to 20, with completed forms and supporting documents due on August 20.

Screening of aspirants, publication of results and screening appeals will take place on August 21, ahead of the primaries on August 22. Election appeals are scheduled for August 24.

The party also fixed the primaries for bye-elections covering Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe, Disina and Sakwa constituencies in Bauchi, Udu in Delta and Dawakin Kudu in Kano.

According to the APC, “the All Progressives Congress hereby releases its Timetable and Schedule of Activities” for the exercise.

Aspirants face millions of naira in fees

House of Assembly aspirants are required to pay N1m for expression of interest and N5m as nomination fees, while House of Representatives aspirants will pay N1m and N9m respectively.

Female, youth and physically challenged aspirants will pay the expression of interest fee and 50 per cent of the prescribed nomination fee.

The development comes after court judgments prompted INEC to restore four constituencies that had previously been suppressed, giving affected communities an opportunity to regain direct representation.

The APC’s August 22 primaries will therefore be a key step towards filling the restored seats and vacant legislative positions.
