Aminu Saleh College of Education, Azare (ASCOEA), has officially received the Aminu Saleh College of Education Law, 2026, following Governor Bala Mohammed’s assent to the legislation, a development that empowers the institution to award bachelor’s degrees alongside the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE).
The Provost of the College, Prof. Asabe Mohammed, described the enactment of the law as a historic milestone in the institution’s development, saying it provides the legal framework for the implementation of the dual mandate policy.
According to her, the new law empowers the College to award its own bachelor’s degrees alongside NCE, in line with approvals granted by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Mohammed said the achievement reflects the Bauchi State Government’s commitment to strengthening higher education, expanding access to quality teacher education and promoting human capital development across the state.
She expressed appreciation to Governor Mohammed for his visionary leadership, unwavering support for education and commitment to expanding opportunities for tertiary education in Bauchi state.
The provost also commended the Bauchi State House of Assembly, particularly its Committee on Education, for the diligence and commitment in ensuring the successful consideration and passage of the bill.
Mohammed further appreciated the Secretary to the State Government, the Commissioner for Higher Education and Regional Integration, and the ministry for their guidance and support throughout the legislative process.
She equally acknowledged the Bauchi State Ministry of Justice, especially the Permanent Secretary, for coordinating and supervising the drafting process that culminated in the successful enactment of the law.
Mohammed disclosed that the College had already made significant progress towards commencing admissions into its dual mandate degree programmes.
She said the required academic, administrative and regulatory processes were being finalised to ensure a smooth take-off in full compliance with statutory requirements and quality assurance standards.
The college management in a statement, advised prospective applicants, parents, guardians and the general public to await official announcements on available degree programmes, admission requirements, screening schedules and application procedures.
ASCOEA reaffirmed its commitment to excellence, innovation and the provision of accessible, high-quality teacher education that meets national and international standards.
