Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, erupted in celebration after his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, secured re-election in Saturday’s governorship poll, thereby bringing to a close an intensely personal campaign in which the singer became one of the governor’s most visible political backers.
Davido watched the final declaration on Channels Television and reacted dramatically when the Returning Officer, Prof Joshua Ogunwole, formally announced Adeleke as the winner. He jumped up, knelt and eventually lay on the floor as members of his team joined the celebration.
Moments later, he posted on X: “WE DID IT UNC !!! @aadeleke_01,” alongside a video of the celebration.
From campaign rallies to victory night
Davido’s involvement in the election went beyond public endorsements. He served as chairman of the Imole Youth Mobilisation Campaign Council and suspended parts of his music career to campaign for his uncle.
He took part in rallies and grassroots mobilisation across Osun while using his large social media following to encourage support for the governor. In the final days before voting, he also spoke against violence and intimidation and called on supporters to protect their ballots.

On election day, the singer continued to track developments online, commenting on results as they emerged and pressing for transparency during the collation process.
His political involvement gave the Adeleke campaign a prominent entertainment figure whose rallies and online interventions drew considerable public attention.
Adeleke wins by 66,252 votes
INEC declared Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, winner after he secured 511,067 votes.
His closest opponent, APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, polled 444,815 votes, and that gave the incumbent a winning margin of 66,252 votes. ADC candidate Najeem Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes.
Adeleke won 19 of Osun’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji prevailed in 11.
The victory gives Adeleke another four-year term after his first election as governor in 2022. He later left the Peoples Democratic Party for the Accord Party in December 2025.
Celebrations spread across Osun
Adeleke’s declaration triggered celebrations in several parts of the state, particularly Osogbo and Ede, his hometown.
Supporters gathered around the INEC collation centre in the state capital and outside the governor’s residence in Ede, singing and dancing as the result confirmed his return to office.
As far as Davido is concerned, the moment carried an additional significance. After weeks of rallies, mobilisation, and political advocacy on behalf of his uncle, the singer watched the final result arrive and celebrated it as a personal victory: “We did it.”
