Defence Ministry Applauds Matawalle’s Appointment To APC 2027 Campaign Council

The Ministry of Defence has welcomed President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, as Deputy Director, Security and Intelligence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.
The ministry, in a statement issued on Sunday by its chief information officer, Queeneth Iheoma-Hart, on behalf of the Director of Information and Public Relations, said the appointment underscored Tinubu’s confidence in Matawalle’s experience in governance, security management and political mobilisation.
According to the ministry, Matawalle’s new role will involve developing the security architecture for campaign activities, with responsibility for safeguarding candidates, campaign officials and supporters across the country.
“Also, he will be in charge of Intelligence and Risk Assessment by Working with security agencies to provide threat analysis and mitigation for campaign operations across states.
“Furthermore, he will coordinate Inter-Agency and Stakeholder Coordination by liaising with traditional rulers, community leaders, youth and women groups to deepen support for the security architecture of the campaign management.”
The ministry added that Matawalle would coordinate inter-agency and stakeholder engagement by working with traditional rulers, community leaders, youth and women groups to strengthen the security framework of the campaign.
It described the appointment as a reflection of the President’s recognition of the former Zamfara State governor’s record in public service, security administration and political organisation.
The ministry further highlighted Matawalle’s contribution as Minister of State for Defence, particularly his involvement in implementing the administration’s security policies, engaging with security agencies and advocating improved welfare for troops and development of security infrastructure.
Matawalle, while reacting to the appointment, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the APC leadership for the confidence placed in him.
He pledged to deploy his experience as a former governor, serving federal minister and political leader towards ensuring a peaceful and effectively coordinated campaign.
He said his objective would be to help communicate the achievements of the Renewed Hope Administration to Nigerians across the country and contribute to a successful 2027 campaign.
The Defence Ministry congratulated Matawalle on his new assignment and expressed its commitment to supporting the campaign council in the discharge of its responsibilities.
