“Don’t Get Married If You Can’t Pay Your Own Flight Ticket” — Nigerian Female Pastor Advises Young Women
A Nigerian female pastor has advised young women against getting married if they are unemployed or financially unstable, stating that a lack of self-sufficiency can trap them in unhealthy relationships.
Speaking during a Sunday church session, the pastor said, “If you are a young lady and you don’t have a job or anything you are doing, and can’t pay your flight ticket, don’t get married.”
She explained that men are generally better able to navigate difficult life circumstances than women, adding that many women remain in unfulfilling or harmful relationships simply because they lack the means to walk away and rebuild their lives independently.
According to her, this inability to “navigate” life outside of a relationship, unlike men who she says can more easily exit and start over, is a major reason why many women stay with the wrong partners longer than they should.
Her comments have since sparked discussion online, with reactions split between those who praised the message as practical and empowering, and others who felt it oversimplified the complexities many women face in relationships and marriage.
