Empty Seats, One Loyal Student —  Lecturer Left Stunned After Showing Up To Nearly Empty Lecture Hall

A Nigerian female lecturer has expressed frustration after arriving for a scheduled two-hour lecture, from 3 to 5 pm, only to find just a single student present in the classroom.

In a video she recorded and narrated, the lecturer said she arrived with her teaching assistant expecting a full class, but was met instead with rows of empty seats and only one attending student.

“It’s only one student in class out of all the students,” she remarked, visibly taken aback by the low turnout.

She said she subsequently reported the incident to her Head of Department to formally flag what she had witnessed.

The video, filmed panning across an empty lecture hall, has resonated with many educators online, tapping into a familiar frustration among lecturers over inconsistent class attendance at the tertiary level, an issue often linked to factors ranging from disengagement and scheduling conflicts to broader questions about mandatory attendance enforcement on university campuses.

The institution and course involved have not been disclosed.
