A Nigerian Law School student from the Enugu Campus died after falling from the rooftop of the school’s Lagos Campus hostel early on Friday, 7 August, 2026, the Council of Legal Education has confirmed on 10 August.
The student was in Lagos for an externship programme and had been temporarily accommodated at the Lagos Campus hostel for the duration of the programme.
Preliminary information released by the Nigerian Law School showed that the incident happened at about 4 a.m. at the campus hostel. The student fell from the rooftop and later died from the incident.

The Council of Legal Education, which oversees the Nigerian Law School, confirmed the death in a press statement signed by Aderonke O. Osho, Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration, on Monday.
The information contained in the press statement did not disclose the name of the student or other personal details. It also did not give further information about what happened before the fall. But Punch Newspapers had reported earlier today that “Faith Alayande” was the name of the deceased.
Student was in Lagos for externship
The student was enrolled at the Nigerian Law School’s Enugu Campus but was in Lagos as part of an externship programme.
For the programme, the student was given temporary accommodation at the Lagos Campus hostel. It was at that hostel that the fatal incident occurred in the early hours of Friday.
The Council said it was working with the appropriate authorities and the student’s family to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
It also said the necessary procedures would be carried out before further information is provided.
The timing of the incident places the death at about 4am, when the student fell from the hostel rooftop. The Council did not disclose the circumstances that led to the student being on the rooftop.
The school said the family had been informed and was dealing with the loss. It appealed to members of the public, the media and others to respect the family’s request for privacy as they mourn.
