Five Feared Dead As Sprinter Bus, Tipper Truck Collide At Ofankor Barrier

Five people are feared dead while several others sustained serious injuries after a tipper truck collided with a Sprinter bus at the Ofankor Barrier on the Accra-Kumasi Highway in the early hours of Thursday, August 13, 2026.

The crash left the Sprinter bus badly mangled, trapping several passengers inside and triggering a major rescue operation at the scene.

According to ADO1 Alex King Nartey of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), emergency officers were deployed to rescue victims trapped in the wreckage and provide assistance to those who survived the crash, with five people confirmed dead and several others sustaining serious injuries.

One female victim, whose legs were reportedly severed in the crash, was transported from the scene by ambulance.

The accident, which involved a tipper truck, a Sprinter minibus, and a tricycle, occurred on the express lane of the highway, causing heavy morning traffic congestion in the area.

The GNFS has urged motorists travelling from Pokuase and Amasaman towards Ofankor and Accra to use the outer lane and exercise extreme caution while rescue operations continue.

Fire service personnel have since extricated all trapped persons from the mangled Sprinter, and the vehicle has been removed from the road to allow traffic to resume flowing.
