Form 1 Student, Twin Of Hausa Chief, Drowns In Abandoned Fish Pond In Odumase

Abdul Saeed Alhassan Latif, a Form 1 Visual Arts student at Twene Amanfo Senior High and Technical School and the male twin of Hausa Chief Alhassan Saeed Tariq’s twins, has died after drowning in an abandoned fish pond at Odumase in the Bono Region.

According to reports, the pit had originally been dug by a man to serve as a fish pond but was later abandoned, gradually filling with water over roughly four years.

The deceased and his friends reportedly visited the site when he slipped into the pond and drowned before rescuers could reach him in time.

Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

The case adds to a broader pattern of preventable deaths linked to abandoned excavation sites, pits, and ponds left unsecured across Ghana, which continue to pose serious risks, particularly to children and young people drawn to them out of curiosity or during play.

The community and the family of the Hausa Chief are said to be in mourning following the loss.
