Gov Alia Pledges To Construct, Furnish, 5 Div Army Headquarters, Other Military Formations In Benue

The Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has pledged to fully support the operations of the newly established 5 Division of the Nigeria Army headquarters in Makurdi, the state capital and other military formations in the state.
Sir Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, who disclosed this in a statement made available to INDEPENDENT in Makurdi on Tuesday, explained that the support would include the construction and furnishing of the headquarters of the Division.
The CPS noted that the governor made the commitment, when he played host to a delegation from the Army Headquarters Implementation Committee, at Government House, Makurdi, led by Major General Raymond Utsaha.
According to the statement, Governor Alia, described the establishment of the military formations as a major step towards improving security in Benue, even as he expressed confidence that the development would strengthen the state’s security system and also restore public confidence.
He assured that government would provide land for all the approved military formations and units, as well as logistics needed to ensure the smooth takeoff of the new division.
Governor Alia, thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the new Army formations and for locating the headquarters in Benue state, expressing appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff and the leadership of the Nigerian Army for the decision.
He observed that the people of the state have looked forward to a stronger military presence in Benue because of the security challenges they have faced over the years, emphasizing that the new division would help change the state’s security situation for the better.
Kula, said Governor Alia, also paid tribute to officers and soldiers who have lost their lives while defending the country and praised security personnel serving in Benue for their sacrifices in protecting lives and property.
The Governor congratulated Major General Moses Gara, on his appointment as the pioneer General Officer Commanding (GOC), 5 Division, assuring him of the state government’s continued cooperation with the Nigerian Army.
The Army Headquarters Committee is in Benue to implement the Federal Government’s approval for the establishment of new military formations and units. The visit is expected to pave way for the take-off of the Division and other approved military units in the state.
The team to Benue was led by Major General Raymond Utsaha, and accompanied by the pioneer GOC of the 5 Division, Major General Gara. End.
