Group Urges Tinubu To Release Withheld Osun LG Allocations
A civic organisation, Dee Osun Monitors, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene and order the immediate release of statutory allocations due to local governments in Osun State.
In an open letter dated Wednesday, 19th August 2026, the group said the prolonged withholding of the funds has stalled development at the grassroots and is affecting primary healthcare, rural roads, basic education and community security across the state.
The letter, signed by the group Coordinator, Prince Jide Akinyooye, and Secretary, Comrade Victor Olurotimi, commended the President for what it described as his impartial posture during the 2026 Osun governorship election that led to the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The group noted that the timely intervention to unfreeze Osun State bank accounts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the deployment of adequate security helped to curb political violence and irregularities during the poll.
It also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission for its professionalism and transparency in conducting the election, saying the exercise has inspired confidence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Dee Osun Monitors, the outcome of the governorship election confirmed that Governor Adeleke enjoys the acceptance and popularity of Osun people, and their voice must be respected.
The group said, “It was now time for the President to put an end to the administrative and political impasse surrounding local government administration in the state.”
The organisation expressed concern that the situation in Osun appears to be unique, with questions being raised by Nigerians and the international community on why “impunity is being allowed to thrive for political reasons. It warned that the development poses a grave danger to democracy, federalism and peace in the Southwest and Nigeria at large.”

Dee Osun Monitors urged President Tinubu to halt what it termed unconstitutional attempts by leaders of the opposition party, through the influence of federal might, to extend the tenure of local government officials whose elections have been voided by competent courts of law.
The group further “appealed to the President to advise leaders and members of his party to respect the will of Osun people and demonstrate the spirit of sportsmanship, citing the example of former President Goodluck Jonathan during the 2015 presidential election.”
It said such conduct would deepen democracy and earn the admiration of Nigerians.
Dee Osun Monitors said many people in the state are standing firmly with Governor Adeleke because of perceived intimidation and attempts to undermine his government, and that the President’s intervention as a democrat and father of the nation would cement his legacy as a lover of democracy.
The organisation stated that the people of Osun voted for continuity because they desire peace, development and respect for constitutional order, and that the President’s timely intervention would be recorded as an act of statesmanship that places the people above politics.
“Dee Osun Monitors believes in one Nigeria and in your commitment to fairness, justice, and federalism. We trust that you will act in the best interest of the people of Osun and of democracy,” the letter concluded.
