A 60-year-old man, Tajudeen Yusuf, was shot dead in Osogbo, Osun State, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, following a confrontation involving suspected hoodlums and the security team of Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
The incident occurred shortly after Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke visited the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun. The governor had gone to present his Certificate of Return to the monarch following his victory in the August 15 governorship election. Davido accompanied his uncle to the palace.
According to the Osun State Police Command, preliminary investigations showed that Adebayo Taoreed, popularly known as “Small Rugged,” allegedly attempted to gain access to Davido but was stopped by members of the singer’s security team.
Police said the situation escalated when other suspected gang members joined the confrontation. The suspects reportedly left the area and allegedly opened fire while fleeing, hitting Yusuf in the Itaolokan area of Osogbo.
Yusuf was immediately rushed to the University Teaching Hospital in Osogbo, where he was pronounced dead.
The police have commenced a full-scale investigation into the incident and are making efforts to arrest those responsible for the shooting.

Police authorities also stated that preliminary findings indicated that Davido may have been the intended target of the attack. However, the singer was not reported to have sustained any injury.
Davido reportedly dismissed the incident as a fight that occurred outside the palace, maintaining that it was unrelated to him.
The shooting has sparked concerns over security in Osun State, particularly amid heightened political tension following the recently concluded governorship election.
