“He Said I Would Not Have Any Issue” -Kidney Donation Victim Reveals What Friend Told Him Before Surgery

• A man has recounted how his friend, Emmanuel Odeh, allegedly convinced him to donate his kidney, collected the money he received and later claimed the funds had been spent.
• He said Emmanuel changed the dollars and bought phones, power banks and Wi-Fi devices before allegedly taking him to Cross River State, where they stayed for almost three months.

The man at the centre of a recent kidney donation controversy has recounted how his friend, Emmanuel Odeh, allegedly persuaded him to donate his kidney, took custody of the money he received and later told him the funds had been spent.

According to the victim, Emmanuel first introduced him to a man named David, who connected them with an agent called Ben. After initial medical tests showed that his kidney was not a match for the intended recipient, Emmanuel reportedly contacted Ben again and was later informed that another compatible recipient had been found.

The victim said Ben also told him that his name would be changed for the process.

“Ben then said that they were going to change my name, that I would be bearing Hassan Abubakar.”

He said they were subsequently taken to the Federal High Court, where an affidavit was prepared, before they proceeded to Wellington Clinic in Life Camp, Abuja.

According to him, they were given dollars late at night, shortly before he went into the theatre.

“When I was going into the theatre, I gave Emmanuel the money to hold for me.”

The man alleged that Emmanuel later changed the money and used part of it to buy two phones, two power banks and two Wi-Fi devices, giving him one of each.

He said they spent almost a week at the hospital before Emmanuel took him to a hotel and later travelled with him to Cross River State, where they stayed for almost three months.

He eventually asked Emmanuel about the money he had entrusted to him.

“I asked him, ‘Where is the money?’ He told me that the money had finished.”

The victim further claimed that Emmanuel later said they did not have transport fare to return to Abuja and sold his phone to raise money for the journey.

Asked whether Emmanuel had squandered the money, the man replied, “Yes, ma.”

He also explained that although he knew his kidney would be removed and had consented to the procedure, Emmanuel had reassured him that he would not experience serious problems afterward.

“He just told me that it’s something that they’ll just ‘comot’, that there is no issue in there, that if they ‘comot’ it, I can still do everything that I want to do and that I will not have any issue.”

The man said the incident happened sometime in April. He recalled being given $100 and $150, although he could not confirm the exact amount he ultimately received.

His account has sparked mixed reactions online, with some users questioning the circumstances surrounding the alleged kidney donation and others criticising him for handing over the money to his friend.
