Nollywood actor Bolanle Ninalowo has opened up about his personal healing journey, reflecting on how he came to understand the importance of self-love and self-worth.
In a recent social media post, the actor revealed that hearing people say, “he loves himself,” now brings him a deep sense of fulfilment. According to him, embracing himself has become one of the most rewarding experiences of his life.
Ninalowo explained that for much of his adult life, he was more focused on loving and choosing other people, seeking to please others and giving excessively. He also admitted to living with extreme emotional dependence on others.
However, his healing process forced him to confront an important truth about himself. He realised that despite the love he constantly showed to others, he had never truly learned how to love, appreciate or value himself.
The actor further noted that what he once understood as love was actually attachment, suggesting that his journey has helped him distinguish genuine self-love from emotional dependence.
His reflection highlights the importance of self-awareness and personal growth, as he continues to embrace a healthier relationship with himself.
His words…
“When I hear, ‘This man you too love yourself’.
Omo, you have no idea how much it gladdens my heart oo!!
As a matter of fact, it is now one of the most fulfilling parts of my existence.
Loving and choosing others, people-pleasing, over-giving, and the extreme codependency I lived with for almost my entire adult life made me realise something during my healing journey.
I didn’t know how to love or value myself.
What I once called Love was, in many ways, simply attachment”.
